Challenging dive site
Big Sponge 1 has, just like Big Sponge 2, a very nice reef with beautiful hard and soft corals and hundreds of waving fan corals. The drop off starts at about 80 meters from the shore and gradually descends to a depth of 35 meters. Just like Big Sponge 2, you'll come across the gigantic barrel sponges that give this dive site its name.
Particulars
Be careful at Big Sponge 1 while entering the water. Beware of sea urchins, rocks and fire coral.
Warnings
Big Sponge 1 is infamous for its strong currents at the drop off. Close to the shore there may be a strong current, towards the south, as well. Keep this in mind when swimming out. Only dive here with sufficient experience and use a local dive guide. Only
