BINNENSPUIKANAAL
Nederland, Noord Holland
The Binnenspuikanaal is a dive site for adventurers. Want something totally different for once? The Binnenspuikanaal could be an option. Visibility is moderate and there can be some considerable current. Expect species such as eels, crabs, lobsters and sea bass. The most marine life is seen at the shipping barriers and houseboats. Both are overgrown with large colonies of trumpet tubeworms. Crabs, pipefish and other species thrive in the midst of the colonies. The water is brackish so you may also encounter freshwater species.
Particulars
Enter the Binnenspuikanaal at the Noodersluisweg. There is a small jetty between the five shipping barriers and the row of houseboats (see map). Jump is possible. The water is about 3 meters deep. Dive past the barricades and then cross to the houseboats back to the exit.
Warnings
The Binnenspuikanaal is not a top dive site, but it is certainly unlike anything else. Varying visibility. Sometimes considerable current when spouting. Spouting is harmless and easily visible at the surface. Preferably dive west of the shipping barriers where there is no shipping traffic. Take your dive lamp with you. The Binnenspuikanaal is not an official dive site but there is no active dive ban.
