KRAAMKAMER
Nederland, Zuid Holland
De Kraamkamer (The Nursery) is a shallow dive site in the Zevenhuizerplas. Documentary maker, Robert Hughan, dived here for the documentary 'The many faces of the Zevenhuizerplas'. As the name suggests, it's a spawning area. That means: Shallow water, lots of vegetation, an enormous abundance of young fish and here and there a pike. Diving the Nursery usually takes place in spring and autumn when the plant growth is somewhat limited and the incoming sunlight creates a fairytale underwater world. No site for novice divers and groups.
Particulars
Enter the water of Kraamkamer from the small beach. The somewhat muddy bottom slopes gradually. Your dive takes place around the small island in front of you. You can just dive around it if you don't use too much air. The vegetation in the water and the banks of the island are interesting. Enjoy the fairytale atmosphere while slowly moving forward. Schools of young fish pass by followed by a large perch or pike.
Warnings
Don't dive in dive spot Kraamkamer in summer time. You can get stuck between the plants. Soft bottom at the entry point. Don't go ashore at the island, it's a bird breeding area. Beware of electric boats that enter the water at Lake 7. Don't dive Kraamkamer with large groups out of respect for nature.
