SLOTERPLAS RUIMZICHT
Nederland, Noord Holland
Sloterplas Ruimzicht is a nice dive site for local divers with clay formations and Chinese mitten crabs. The diving experience is slightly less than at the dive sites Sloterplas Oostoever and Ganzeneiland, but there is plenty of marine life to be seen. The name Ruimzicht refers to the street where you park your car. There are no facilities except for steps to enter the water. The large clay blocks in front of the entry point are interesting as well as the north shore where carp, pike and zander live.
Particulars
Park your car in the Torenwijk district. Then walk past the apartment building to the water. Use the stairs. The water in front of the entry point is too shallow to jump. Dive in eastern direction. The bottom slopes down slowly from 1.5 to 3 meters, followed by a drop-off to 7 meters. Further east the site gets deeper up to about 20 meters. You'll hardly encounter any objects in Ruimzicht, except for the remains of an old quay wall on the west side at 1.5 meters. Marine life, such as crayfish and carp, can be found near the clay blocks and on the north side. Follow the 7-meter line north (left) to find the Chinese mitten crabs.
Warnings
There can be pleasure boats at Sloterplas Ruimzicht. Don't jump into the water, it's too shallow in front of the entry point. Don't come with large groups and be discreet. You are diving in a residential area where many elderly people live.
