Westkapelle is full of old war material, including an old bunker partly protruding above the water. Also lying here are an amphibious ship, a concrete gun turret, an anchor, old tank parts and tank barriers, in the form of large crosses. Most of the war material is between 5 and 7 meters. The tank barriers are behind the clay ledge at a depth of 5 meters. In early spring, you can also encounter cuttlefish in Westkapelle. Look at the sepia bars placed here by divers. Dive at low tide.
Particulars
Park at Westkapelle at the end of Zuiderhoofdweg and enter the water via the beach. You can also park on the Achterweg. However, parking space is very limited here, especially in summer. In either case, you have cover a large distance to the entry point. Enter the water next to the pile heads, where the bunker protrudes above the water. Swim out with the pilings on your right to find the bunker, amphibious craft and gun turret. At a depth of 7 meters, you will also come across remnants of the old dyke.
Warnings
Don't dive at Westkapelle in winds stronger than wind force 2. Limited visibility. Best visibility around neap tide and in windless weather. Don't enter the bunker. Watch out for sharp pieces of wreckage. Abort your dive if the current becomes too strong. There may be anglers on the beach.
