CENOTE DOS OJOS
Mexico
Cenote Dos Ojos is one of Mexico's most famous and impressive cenotes. The name literally means cenote of two eyes. You will only make guided dives here in two cenotes, close to each other. Follow the barbed lines through the crystal-clear water and enjoy the beautiful stalagmites, stalactites, columns and mesmerising light effects. There are several routes. The batcave route takes you past an air dome where bats come to rest. Diving takes place in the cavern zone, with daylight and a view of the exit. The site is suitable for Open Water divers, if comfortable in an overhead environment and accompanied by a certified guide.
Particulars
Cenote Dos Ojos is just off Highway 307 between Tulum and Playa del Carmen. You park close to the cenote, followed by a short jungle walk to the entrance.
Warnings
Always stay with the line and guide in Cenote Dos Ojos. Good buoyancy required. Stalactites break off immediately and irreparably. The site feels safe and shallow but it is still an overhead environment.
