SHRIMP FACTORY
Bonaire
Shrimp Factory is a dive site with lots of big marine life on Bonaire's south-east coast. The site is home to large schools of tarpons, sea turtles, manta rays and sometimes nurse sharks. In the shallower parts, there are nice sandy bottoms and beautiful reefs with soft corals. Shrimp Factory is one of Bonaire's more challenging dive sites because of the sometimes rough conditions on the east coast. Diving here is only done under calm weather conditions. The name Shrimp Factory refers to the abandoned shrimp farm near the entry point, called Fundashon Marcultura. The company went defunct in 1994.
Particulars
Shrimp Factory is located on Bonaire's southeast coast in front of the ruins of the former Marcultura shrimp farm. Park in the abandoned grounds of the farm. Then enter the water via the rugged rocky shore and swim out towards the dive site.
Warnings
Diving at Shrimp Factory is only fase under calm weather conditions. Preferably dive with a dive guide. Difficult entry via rocky shore.
