JUSTIN'S CAVES

South Africa, Western Cape

/ 1

Justin's Caves is one of Cape Town's nicer dive sites. With good visibility, the site can be called spectacular. The underwater world of Justin's Caves consists of a cluster of granite boulders. These rocks form a fascinating area of walls, overhangs, crevices and caves. You won't find much kelp in this area, and marine life is limited to sea urchins, sea cucumbers, mussels and starfish. There are also two large anchors, some pillars and a cannon at Justin's Caves. The best dive period is summer, after a few days of southeast winds. Permit required.

Particulars

Justin's Caves is accessible from the shore. However, you have to walk a bit and then clamber over slippery rocks to reach the water. Therefore, many divers prefer a boat dive. Park on the side of the road, then walk down the slope to the entry point. Now, swim out a bit and then dive over the rocky bottom with sandy patches and dense kelp forests toward Justin's Cave.

Warnings

Justin's Caves can have a strong swell and wave action in southwest winds. Sometimes strong currents at passages. Suddenly rising offshore winds. You are diving in a protected natural area. Dive torch recommended. Slippery rocks at entry point. Sometimes
