Tons of sea bream escaped after storm on Malta

Thousands of fish were also thrown ashore by the high waves.

Divers on Malta were surprised by gigantic schools of escaped sea bream. During the storms that hit Malta in the weekend of 24 February, damage was caused to one of the fish farms on the island, after which several hundred tons of sea bream escaped. Divers responded euphoric. "It is phenomenal. We saw a wall of fish. Incredible!" Watch video:

Diving on Gozo

"We mainly saw them around Gozo," divers on the island say. "We dived in Mgar ix-Xini. Our students and even our instructors couldn't believe their eyes! It was unique." Unfortunatelly a part of the fish died soon after their escape. Thousands of fish were also thrown ashore by the high waves, where they ended up on the streets and were collected by local residents. The violence of nature on Malta always seems to give something back to the divers. For example, the dive site, Azure Window, changed into a new, interesting dive site after the famous arch collapsed. Both dive site, HMS Maori, and Tug 2 were effected by this years storm.
