NOORDPIER IJMUIDEN
Nederland, Noord Holland
SCUBA DIVING PROHIBITED. Diving at Noordpier is prohibited, but still there is some scuba diving activity. The Noordpier IJmuiden is different from most dive sites in The Netherlands. The Noordpier is a dive site with huge basalt blocks that are overgrown with mussels, sea lilies and weeds from bottom to top. It's an interesting diving area with lobsters, crabs, flatfish and horned mud fish. As with any dive sites in the North Sea, it is waiting for the right conditions. Wait for a calm sea with no wind and dive at high water. T
Particulars
Park at restaurant Sea You and than walk or bike 800 meters to the entry point. Enter the water from the beach where the pier splits in two. The diving area is now in front of you in the bowl between the two piers. Dive over the sandy bottom in search of crabs and flatfishes. Then move to the large basalt block, they are totally overgrown with anemones and surrounded by lobsters and crabs.
Warnings
Take a bike or a trolley (with lock) to cover the distance from the parking lot to the entry point. Never dive here at (south) west wind or stormy weather. Stay in the bowl to avoid strong current and shipping!
