PUNTA MADONNA
Slovenia
Punta Madonna is one of Slovenia’s best-known and most biodiverse dive sites. You’ll be diving in a protected nature reserve at the very tip of historic Piran. The site consists of a rocky reef with a beautiful wall, covered in algae and sponges. Among the creatures living amongst the rocks are seahorses, octopuses, cuttlefish, lobsters, conger eels and scorpionfish. Punta Madonna is a varied, relatively shallow site with plenty of macro life and is particularly well-suited to underwater photography. The site takes its name from St Mary’s Church atop the headland.
Particulars
Punta Madonna is accessible both from the shore and by boat. The dive site is situated at the very tip of the historic Piran peninsula, near Cape Madonna. On the rocks at the tip stands the distinctive stone statue of a mermaid. There are several rocky entry points. It is best to use the entry point with steps near the diving centre.
Warnings
Punta Madonna is situated in a nature reserve. Please take care when entering the water from rocky entry points.
