TURTLE TOMB
Malaysia
Turtle Tomb is a turtle graveyard. It's a cave off the coast of Sipadan Island, with numerous skeletons of green sea turtles on the bottom. This tomb gives your dive an interesting but also macabre twist. The animals died in the cave system because they couldn't find the exit. Turtle Tomb is a very special dive site that every cave diver must have seen once in his life. Dive here only with an experienced local guide who knows the cave well.
Particulars
Turtle Tomb can be reached by boat. Descend to the entrance of the cave to enter the tomb. Once in the cave you'll come across remnants of sea turtles every few meters. Sometimes you'll see some bones here and there, but you'll also come across many skeletons that are almost completely intact. You will feel that you're diving in a special place in the underwater world of Sipadan.
Warnings
Turtle Tomb is only suitable for experienced cave divers. Dive with a local guide that knows the cave. Don't swirl up the sand on the bottom so as not to reduce visibility in the cave.
