Overal Raggies ! 2 leuke duiken gemaakt. Zicht was niet optimaal maar goed genoeg. En ontzettend veel haaien 😀.
2 geweldige duiken. De zee was erg ruw en de stroming flink maar zeker de moeite waard. Morgen weer. 15🦈 Gedoken met Blue Ocean Dive Resort
Enorme biodiversiteit. Heftige boottocht naar de duiklocatie.
Aliwal Shoal is a beautiful rocky reef about five kilometers off the coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It's a versatile and inspiring dive site with beautiful reef structures and an unprecedented abundance of species. Aliwal Shoal is part of a large reef complex. It's a narrow ledge that runs parallel to the coastline which is also referred to as The Crown. The dive site is named after the Aliwal, a ship that almost collapsed at this location in 1849. Nearby are two popular diving wrecks, the MV Produce and the SS Nebo. Aliwal Shoal is best known for its grey nurse sharks that visit this spawning area in large numbers between July and November. Turtles, moray eels, hammerheads and whitetip reef sharks are equally common. Aliwal Shoal is without a doubt one of the most beautiful dive sites in the world.
Aliwal Shoal can be reached by boat from Umkomaas or Scottburgh. After a short but stormy boat trip it's time to explore this beautiful reef. The shallowest part is situated at the northern end where the bottom is relatively steep, at the sides the slope is less. Enjoy the clear blue water and observe the jagged rock structures with their colorful growth of hard and soft corals. Diving is possible all year round, with different species per season.
Aliwal Shoal is located in a protected nature reserve. Occasionally the Great White is spotted here. Fierce boat trip to the dive site.
