GREAT BLUE HOLE
Belize
The Great Blue Hole is a diving paradise in Belize. It is an open underwater cave with an almost perfect round shape and a diameter of 30 meters. Jacques Cousteau made this centuries-old location famous among sports divers by describing it as one of the most beautiful diving spots in the world. The Great Blue Hole ls is a real bucket list dive, but don't expect a fairytale underwater world. However, the unreal scenario of enormous stalagmites and reef sharks in a turquoise sea makes this an unforgettable dive. The Great Blue Hole is part of the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System and listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Particulars
The Great Blue Hole can best be reached from Ambergris Caye or Caye Caulker, two islands off the coast of Belize. Both islands are easily accessible by water taxi from Belize City, but there are also regular flights between Belize City and Ambergris Caye. Although the Great Blue Hole is very deep, the surrounding waters are shallow and therefore great for snorkeling.
Warnings
Always follow the guidelines of local dive schools or guides when diving here.
