MONAD SHOAL
Philippines
Monad Shoal is a cleaning station for thresher sharks. They swim back and forth to be cleaned and it's a wonderful experience to watch. Not many dive sites in the world can equal the wonder that is called, Monad Shoal. The site itself consists of nothing more than a sea mount or rock stump with a flat top, which lies about 20 meters below the surface. Yet because of the thresher shark, this dive site has become one of the most important diving locations in the Philippines. Divers from all over the world come to Malapascua and take the boat to Monad Shoal to attend the cleaning ritual. Truly a dive for your bucket list.
Particulars
Monad Shoal can be reached by boat. The sailing time from the island is about 60 minutes. Once arrived you'll find yourself at one of the most famous dive sites in the world to spot thresher sharks. The thresher sharks live in deep water but they usually rise just before sun rise to the sea mount for a cleaning. One by one they swim up to have the parasites removed from their skin and gills. A fascinating sight.
