Akranes is a dive site in Iceland with amazing kelp forests and soft orange corals. Akranes is home to numerous different species, such as crabs, lobsters, cod, starfish, sea wolves and seals. There are also several wrecks on the bottom. Especially impressive are the swaying kelp forests, where you are occasionally joined by a seal. The site is about an hour's drive from the world-famous dive site Silfra.

Particulars

Akranes is located in the Vestureland region, a 40-minute drive from Reykjavik. The water is entered via a rocky beach, after a 400-meter walk. You then have to swim out for about 15 minutes to reach depth.

Warnings

Akranes is a site for divers in a good physical condition. The site is reached via a rocky shore after a long walk in full equipment. Dry suit required. Guided diving. Display dive certificate required.
