Artificial Reef was a project of the University of Las Palmas. The purpose of the reef was to provide shelter to endangered species, that could disappear as a result of overfishing. The project ended in 1994. Artificial Reef is now a nice dive site with all kinds of objects, good visibility and an abundance of marine life.
Particulars
Enter Artificial Reef from the boat. The site is filled with underwater objects. They served as shelter for fish, during the experiment. Artificial Reef is one of the best dive sites to encounter angel sharks. You often spot them circling over the reef or sleeping on the sandy bottom.
Warnings
Artificial Reef is sometimes visited by pleasure boats. Use a surface buoy if necessary.
