CRYSTAL BAY
Indonesië
Crystal Bay is one of the most famous dive sites on Bali and one of the best spots to find the illustrious sunfish. Before leaving you even have to read and sign a sunfish protocol to dive responsibly with these fish. Ever seen a sunfish? This is your chance. They live in deep water layers and only enter recreational depths to be cleaned at a cleaning station or to warm up in the sun.
Particulars
Crystal Bay is located west of Nusa Penida and south of Gamat. Enter the water from the boat in the shelter of the bay. A large rock marks the beginning of the canal, where currents increase. Your dive takes place between 5 and 15 meters, but sometimes you have to go deeper to spot the sunfish. On the north side of the bay you'll find a bat cave. This is an open cavern which is home to bats and where sometimes small reef sharks sleep. They usually leave as soon as they see divers arriving.
Warnings
Crystal Bay can be busy at times. Sign the sunfish protocol if desired and follow the guidelines. There can sometimes be a strong current at Crystal Bay on the outside the sheltered bay. The use of a surface buoy is recommended.
