SHARK AND YOLANDA REEF
Egypte
Shark and Yolanda Reef is definitely one of the best dive sites in the Red Sea. The dive site consists of two pinnacles that rise up from a depth of 800 meters. A dive along these walls is unforgettable. One of the pinnacles (Yolanda) is named after a cargo ship that perished here in 1980. The other (Shark) is known for its reef sharks. The best dive at this location is with strong currents, when the soft corals open up and the reef turns into an oasis of color and life.
Particulars
Shark and Yolanda Reef is a drift diving location. The boat will not moor or anchor, it will sail away and pick you up after one of the most beautiful drift dives you have ever made. The current usually comes from the direction of Anemone City to take you first to Shark Reef and then to Yolanda Reef. The wreck of the Yolanda lies 170 meters deep and is therefore inaccessible for recreational divers. Part of the cargo, which consists mainly of sanitary facilities, can be found on a shallow plateau on the reef. If you want to spot sharks, find a quiet place with few divers and see if you can see them circling above the large schools of fish around you.
Warnings
Shark and Yolanda Reef can sometimes have downward currents in summer time. The site is very deep, the bottom lies right next to the reef at a depth of 800 meters.
