EEL GARDEN
Egypte
Eel Garden is exactly what the name suggests, an eel garden. You can see dozens of them sticking out of the white see bottom, swaying on the swell of the water. Garden eels are special animals. They live in permanent tubular burrows on the sandy bottom, where they forage for food without leaving their enclosures. The sandy bottom with the eel garden is reached via a tunnel followed by a reef and a sloping bottom. Linger in the shallows on your way back to observe the wide variety of soft and hard corals in this area.
Particulars
Eel Garden is located a few hundred meters north of Dahab Lighthouse. The site is accessible by the boardwalk or by a small shortcut. Walk towards the entry point. You will enter a 9-meter wide tunnel that gets wider and wider until you reach a large, gradually sloping sandy bottom.
Warnings
Diving at Eel Garden is only possible with little wind. The current is too strong to dive in windy weather conditions. Watch out for pleasure boats.
