The Zoutman is a dive site in the Westerschelde, near Ritthem. Because of the very strong current and the short diving window, De Zoutman is only suitable for experienced divers. It is a dive site with a varied bottom of sand, clay and stones. The soil vegetation is diverse. You don't see much fish, but De Zoutman is populated by many lobsters and crabs.
Particulars
Park at the Barentsweg, after which you cross the street in the direction of the water. Underwater you'll find yourself above a bottom, made up of sand and clay. Then follows an area with stones, these are the remnants of the old sea dike. The bottom is shallower here and then steeply descends to depths of more than 50 meters. Diving deeper than 20 meters is not advisable.
Warnings
Only dive at the Zoutman at high tide. Entering the water at low tide is practically impossible. Very strong current. Short diving window. Poor visibility after high water rotation. Do not dive in southeasterly or southwesterly winds, stronger than wind f
