HR. MS. BV 34

The Hr. Ms. BV 34 is the wreck of the former tug, North Sea II, which was used as a surveillance vessel during World War II. The ship sank on May 14, 1940, when it struck a magnetic mine in the mouth of the Westerschelde River. A British destroyer managed to rescue two victims. The bodies of two other sailors later washed up on the coast of Walcheren. The remaining sixteen on board were given a seaman's grave. The Hr. Ms. BV 34 lies partially buried in the sand at a depth of 9 meters off the coast of Zoutelande.
