RAS IR-RAHEB

/ 2

Ras Ir-Raheb is a headland jutting out on the west point of Malta. Anchoring at the point is very difficult. There's only a very small shelf here, lying at about 20 meters deep. After the shelf the cliff plunges vertically to a depth of 70 meters or more. The dive site has a very nice cave starting from the surface and reaching down to around 25 meters. Exploring the cave is quite an experience. The rock face outside the cave is nearly vertical and the wall starts to slope down to a sandy seabed at depths over 70 meters. If you want you can keep following the wall to the east, until you enter 'Fomm ir-Rih' Bay, and find yourself in up to 20 metres of water.

Particulars

Enter the water via the boat. The boatsman should lay you close to the cliff on top of the shallow shelf, where you can choose your depth.

Warnings

Well exposed to currents, surge and swell. Please note that this dive is only suitable for the experienced, and should be planned with great care for safety because the sheer cliff face can be disorientating due to the clarity and deep blue of the water.
