TUNNEL & REEF
Malta
Xlendi Tunnel & Reef is found in Xlendi Bay and while shallow it is till an awesome dive. It is best to swim across the bay on the surface or just underwater. The maximum depth of this dive is 12 meters. The cave is a bent tunnel leading from one side to the other side of the rock wall. The tunnel is only 2 meters deep in Xlendi Bay and 6 meters on the other side, so it is possible to snorkel through. In the tunnel there are large boulders and light streaming in creates a cathedral effect. At the end of the tunnel, the seabed is covered with smooth rocks and shingle. From here dive to the left to the gentle outer drop-off and around the reef. Part of this forms a pinnacle which rises up almost to the surface, and should be avoided by boat traffic.
Particulars
The tunnel is also popular at night as it is a nice easy dive in shallow water. It is also popular with less experienced divers, and is for many their first adventure in a cave.
Warnings
Sheltered, but very busy with boat traffic and swimmers.
