VEERSE DAM 86
Nederland, Zeeland
Veerse Dam is nice if you want to make an easy, shallow dive in Lake Veerse Meer. The site has quite a few advantages. You don't have to cross a dyke and the entry point is close to a spacious car park. Underwater you'll find sandy bottoms and mussel fields full of crabs, pipefish, shrimps and other small marine life. At 100 meters from the entry point is a densely vegetated practice platform at a depth of 7.5 meters. There is a line at 5 meters that will take you there.
Particulars
The Veerse Dam is located at the Veerse Gatdam. You can walk straight from the car park into the water via a trailer ramp. The Veerse Gatdam is the dam that closed off the Veerse Gat on 27 April 1961. This created Lake Veerse Meer. The dam is 2.8 kilometers long and runs from Walcheren to Noord-Beveland.
Warnings
Don't make free ascents at Veerse Dam. Beware of pleasure boats. A lot of recreation in summer. Use a dive flag. Prefer to dive here in spring or autumn. Dive in the shallow water layers, the site gets a bit bare at depth.
