TARPON CITY
Curaçao
Whoever visits Tarpon City comes for the tarpons. There is always a large school in this dive site. The fish feel safe and are not afraid of divers. Tarpon City is located near the historic Waterfort in Willemstad. It was built in 1634 as one of the forts to protect the Annabaai. Now it houses, besides a diving school, a number of restaurants and terraces overlooking the sea.
Particulars
Tarpon City is easily accessible from the shore. Park by the water and walk to the embarkation point. Swim out of the bay and descend along the reef where you will see doctor's fish, parrot fish, barracudas and hedgehogs. The tarpons are usually located in front of the fort, in shallow water.
Warnings
Tarpon City is located near a harbour entrance, where you are not allowed to dive. Notice the white poles that indicate the port entrance. Paid parking, take small change with you. Beware of boats.
