The City of Washington is one of the most popular wrecks of Elbow Reef. It is an old steamship with two masts and three decks, built in 1877. The City of Washington carried both cargo and passengers. The ship sank as a coal barge in 1917, when it ran on Elbow Reef. The wreck has largely perished, all its contours of the hold and the keel are still clearly visible.
