VUILNISBELT POORTVLIET 80
Nederland, Zeeland
Vuilnisbelt (Poortvliet) has a large variety of marine life, including some rare species such as the porcelain crab and the dahlia anemone. Vuilnisbelt is also known for its nudibranches. They colonize here in large numbers during the fall. The sandy bottom consist of sand, rocks and oyster shells. The name Vuilnisbelt refers to a former dump nearby, which was closed in 1992.
Particulars
Enter the water from the dike and make sure to start your dive twenty minutes before reversal to keep the current in your advantage. Vuilnisbelt is nicely vegetated between 3 and 15 meters. Deeper, the vegetation decreases and turns into a sandy bottom.
Warnings
Vuilnisbelt is also a fishing spot. Beware of fishing lines. Don't dive with southern wind stronger than wind force 4. Dive at high tide to exit the water at the beach, which will shorten the walking distance.
