GURBEL REEF
Malta
To find Gurbel Reef simply go directly out of Mellieha Bay, between Dahlet ix-Xilep and Ras il-Griebeg. This reef is named after the Maltese name for brown meagre which is found here in large numbers. Here you will find some striking and unusual rock formations amidst a tumble of large and small boulders, all of which are covered in a profusion of alga.
Particulars
The reef is almost exactly in the middle of the beginning of the bay where the bay debouches into the sea.
Warnings
This dive area can be choppy in windy weather conditions. There is also a surge present. Watch the boat traffic, surface near the boat! Bring an SMB!
